Robert R. Davis Sr. Deputy director of N.J. Office of the Public Defender, Newark police detective, of Livingston Robert R. Davis, Sr., 84, passed away on Monday, March 30, after a long illness. Born in Newark, N.J., Robert resided in Livingston, N.J., for the past 46 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. Robert R. Davis Sr. Deputy director of N.J. Office of the Public Defender, Newark police detective, of Livingston Robert R. Davis, Sr., 84, passed away on Monday, March 30, after a long illness. Born in Newark, N.J., Robert resided in Livingston, N.J., for the past 46 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. Robert retired as the deputy director of the N.J. Office of the Public Defender-Investigator Division in 1998. Previously, he was a detective lieutenant with the Newark Police Department. He was a charter member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. He also served as the assistant director of the St. Rose of Lima Imperial Lancers Junior Drum and Bugle Corps.

Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret M. "Peggy" (nee McFadden); his parents, Harold and Lillian, and his siblings, Harold and Rose Davis, Bill and Gertrude "Peggy" Schick, and Ruth and Whitey Auerbach. He is survived by his sons, Robert Jr., and his wife, Patricia; John and his wife, Nadiya, and Michael and his former wife, Rita, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, N.J. Funeral service will be offered at the funeral home on Saturday, April 4, at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
